SUCCESS STORY

Škoda Auto uses Knox solutions and Samsung smartphones to introduce new model

In the spring of 2018, Czech automobile manufacturer Škoda Auto introduced the new Škoda Karoq model. Škoda prepared hundreds of cars for importers and dealers to test, each of which was equipped with a Samsung phone. Customized with Knox Configure, these phones were pre-installed with the company’s proprietary apps and a roadbook, which drivers could use to navigate the selected route. And with Knox Manage, Škoda was able to instantly pinpoint each car’s location, ensuring a safe drive.

CHALLENGE

Configure and manage a large number of devices remotely

Czech automobile manufacturer Škoda Auto introduced the new Škoda Karoq model in spring 2018 at the World Dealer Conference. Test drives for importers and dealers were arranged in Spain, where it was possible to test the new cars on different terrains – from sea coast to high mountains.

The involvement of other technologies was a necessity for ensuring a smooth ride, which in this case included Samsung phones with Samsung Knox. Škoda Auto prepared hundreds of cars for this testing cycle, and wanted to include a smartphone with in-house apps and route maps installed.

They also sought a solution that would remove pre-installed apps, change the lock screen and wallpaper, include a direct link to a helpdesk, and disable factory reset.

The company decided on Samsung phones as a key piece of equipment for this event. However, it was a challenge efficiently setting up hundreds of phones while also satisfying all the organisers’ requirements.

SOLUTION

Knox cuts deployment time by 90%

Samsung Knox technology and System4u, the company that flawlessly manages the implementation of this technology, perfectly served this purpose. Specifically, it was Samsung Knox Configure that was used for the phone’s initial set-up and Samsung Knox Manage that was used to manage the security settings and monitor the car’s current location. All the phones were set up by the technical team remotely from a central console.

Such strict device settings are very time-consuming. Phones or tablets had already been used for car testing the previous year. However, at that time, it was not possible to automatically set up such requirements as easily as it was this time around. Therefore, the set-up took 5 days with a team of 8 administrators.

Thanks to Samsung Knox technology, the amount of time it took for set-up this year was significantly reduced to just 2 days using a team of just 2 people from tech company System4u, who are well-known for implementing Samsung Knox technology in devices used in the work environment.

RESULTS

Drivers found everything they needed in the Samsung phone during their test drive without the need to leaf through stacks of paper. Everything they needed was right in front of them on one device. Meanwhile, organisers always knew where the drivers were, and could assist them at any point.

Additionally, it was possible to remotely change the phone’s settings each day as per the needs of the organisers, which took a minimum amount of time thanks to Knox technology.
