Which version of Knox is loaded on my device?

If you need to troubleshoot or report a Knox issue, you should get both:

  • general information about the device — model number, Android version, Build number
  • Knox Workspace version

To get the device information

  1. On the home screen, tap Apps > Settings.
  2. Find and tap on About Device.

This displays the following information:

  • Model number — This number can indicate which carrier you are using, which Knox components are preloaded, and which apps might be hidden by a carrier.
  • Android version — If the version number begins with 4.4, the device is running Android KitKat, if the version number begins with 5, the device is running Android Lollipop.
  • Build number — This number encodes the Android software build and when it was released:
    • Android code family — L= Lollipop, K=KitKat, J=Jellybean
    • Code branch — R=primary, S=secondary
    • Release quarter — A=Q1 2009, T=Q4 2013
    • Release date — 01=first day in quarter, so T49=Nov 18 2013, S15=Jul 15 2013
    • Build made that day — A=first build, H=eighth build
  • Kernel version — Version of the current kernel, and date the kernel was updated
  • SE for Android (or SELinux) status — This can be one of the following:
    • Permissive — The device simply records any unauthorized access to resources. Device manufacturers use this information to improve their security policy files.
    • Enforcing (default) — The device prevents unauthorized access to resources.
  • Security software version — (Knox 2.0 or later) Indicates which version of the Mobile Device Fundamentals Protection Profile (MDFPP) standard the device supports, which indicates Common Criteria certification.
  • Secure boot status — (Knox 1.0) Indicates who signed the device firmware. Typically, this is Samsung, but in case of Customizable Secure Boot, this can be a trusted security partner that customizes and signs their own firmware.

To get the Knox version

For devices running Android 5.0+:

  1. On the home screen, tap Apps > Settings.
  2. Tap About Device.
  3. The device version number is listed under Knox version.

For devices running Android 4.4.4 or older:

  1. In the Knox container, go to Samsung Knox Settings.
(In Knox 2.0, this is in the Apps area. In Knox 1.0, tap the left softkey.)
  2. Tap About Knox.

This indicates the version of Knox you have installed, for example, 2.0.0 or 1.0.0.
